Kerkyra United has been born—ushering in a new chapter for sports in Corfu

Kerkyra United has been officially launched.. On Friday, 4 July, in the iconic People’s Garden in the heart of Corfu Town, the club was officially unveiled—marking the dawn of a new era for sport on the island.

The evening was a landmark occasion, as guests were introduced to the vision behind what aspires to become the largest multi-sport club in Corfu’s history.

Driving this project forward is George Kazianis, bringing three decades of experience in professional football, alongside his partner Daniel Taylor, a U.S.-based entrepreneur and football investor. Together, they presented the philosophy and founding principles of the club to an audience that included representatives from local government, the sporting community, and a wide range of social and cultural institutions.

A centerpiece of the event was the announcement of a strategic partnership with Dutch powerhouse AFC Ajax—globally recognized as a leader in youth football development. The collaboration begins with Kerkyra United’s academies and will expand across multiple areas, forming a deep and technically driven alliance. As the natural successor to the Ionia Academy, Kerkyra United places youth development at the core of its mission—not as a supplement, but as its driving force.

“Kerkyra United is rooted in unity, sustainability, and youth development,” said Daniel Taylor. “We want to build a club, a brand, a vision—in close partnership with Ajax Amsterdam—that gives youth the opportunity to play football at the highest level.”

The event was further elevated by the presence of an official delegation from AFC Ajax, underscoring the significance of the collaboration. The delegation included: Alex Kroes (Technical Director), Corné Groenendijk (Manager Football Partnerships), Bart Logchies (Head Lecturer, Football Partnerships), Sara Bissumbhar (Coordinator, Football Partnerships)

Kerkyra United takes its first steps with the ambition to leave a lasting mark on the island’s sporting landscape—starting with a focus on youth development, island unity, and brand-building. The club’s motto, “One Island, One Club, One Family,” resonated deeply with all who attended.
