Kerkyra United & AFC Ajax: The success story of Tasos Vasilakis in the elite of european football

A remarkable story of evolution and opportunity is unfolding in Corfu, featuring a young professional taking his first steps in the international football arena. As previously highlighted in our coverage, Tasos Vasilakis, a physical therapist from Corfu, has embarked on a new chapter in his career through the strategic partnership between Kerkyra United and AFC Ajax.

The journey began in the summer of 2025 at the Ajax Camps Kerkyra, where Tasos’s consistency and professionalism forged a strong bond of trust with the Dutch club. This collaboration evolved into a spectacular milestone: his participation as a physiotherapist at the 14th Olympia Future Cup in Amsterdam. For Kerkyra United, this path serves as a living example of how solid foundations and international strategic alliances can propel our local talent to the very top.

The Interview: “A Family Born on the Pitch”

Tasos, how would you describe your experience during the mission in Amsterdam?

“One of the most fascinating aspects of this experience was our starting point: in the beginning, most of us were strangers to one another. Yet, within just a few days, we became a family. To me, this was the most inspiring element of the tournament. Obviously, achieving something great on the pitch was important, but the connection built through collective effort, trust, and shared responsibility was the most powerful takeaway. You could truly feel that everyone was serving the same mission.”

What was your specific role and what challenges did you encounter?

“My primary role was physiotherapy and the physical preparation of the players. However, given the intensity of such a tournament, I found myself involved in nutrition, recovery, and even psychological support for the athletes. This level of responsibility gave me immense confidence, as it proved I can handle the pressure of a top-tier professional environment. It was a life lesson: in elite sports, everything must function with absolute precision and flawless communication.”

Was there a specific moment that stood out to you?

“There is a characteristic video where I am seen sprinting from the warm-up corner toward an injured player. In that moment, traditional roles were set aside—I had to react instantaneously. Fortunately, by always carrying essential medical equipment with me, I was able to respond immediately and effectively.”

What was the collaboration with the Ajax technical staff like?

“The communication with the coaches was exemplary. Under the guidance of Raymond Atteveld—a coach with rare vision and ambition—we all managed to give 100%. There were nights with minimal sleep and work lasting until the early morning hours, but none of that mattered compared to the responsibility we felt toward our players. We had a mission, and we accomplished it in the best possible way.”

Future Cup: At “De Toekomst” with the World’s Best

To grasp the magnitude of the event Tasos Vasilakis participated in, one only needs to look at the caliber of clubs present at this year’s Olympia Future Cup. Held at Ajax’s legendary training complex, De Toekomst, the tournament stands as the ultimate scouting ground for the elite of world football.

In addition to the hosts, AFC Ajax, the world’s most prestigious brands were in attendance:

  • Paris Saint-Germain (France)

  • Sporting Portugal (Portugal)

  • Bayer 04 Leverkusen (Germany)

  • Anderlecht (Belgium)

  • Olympique Lyonnais (France)

  • Future United

The presence of one of our own at the heart of such a prestigious competition validates the core essence of our endeavor at Kerkyra United. And this is only the beginning!
